How to Wear a Sarong as a Scarf

Images via Pinterest

Do you like to wear your sarongs all year round?

Seasons may change but sarongs are eternal. For this fall, learn how to turn your summer beach cover up to a head or neck wrap at the city. Sarong wraps are all about convenience and fashion depending on your personal style. We're all about creativity and so here are some ideas on how you can use a sarong or half sarong as a scarf:

Clothing - from Summer cover ups to Fall fashion

Did you know that your beach skirt or sarong dress can be a fashion statement? Try to mix and match any bright colorful sarong with solid colored clothing like black, white or blue jeans, throw it over your neck and wear it like a shawl:

Thanks to the versatility of a sarong, it has the same function as a scarf where you can wear it as a sash, bandeau top or vest. As Coco Chanel once said, 'Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening'. We like to think of sarongs as a way of life and we have been observing how it has evolved in the Western world. Here's a cool idea on how you can tie a scarf as a vest:

Flaunt your personality by wearing your favorite sarong as a bandeau scarf top, you can pair it with a high waist skirt or any pants or jeans along with sneakers or wedges, depending on your style and mood. Here's an inspiration for casual city wear:

For those casual days or lazy weekends, you can stay fashionable even in your most comfortable outfit just by throwing your scarves over your shoulders and let it hang loose for that relaxed vibe:

Breezy days - the best way to manage your hair

Easy, flattering and fashionable - there's no better way to keep your hair in place during the season. Last Summer we talked about different hairstyles with scarves to play around with. Fall is a wonderful time to jazz it up and see how you can pull off fresh hairstyles to fit a different climate. We like a woman who can pull off that retro style where you tie your hair back neatly with a little front volume. We recommend a silk or half sarong to get this vintage look:

You can also get that bohemian look when you tie your sarong as a head turban. The more material you have, the more freedom to experiment with this style! Be it with a half or full sarong, it's a great excuse for those bad hair days and a great way to keep your scalp and ears warm for those windy days:

Sarongspiration - Modest Street Fashion

As we embark on our Sarongspiration quest, we're discovering a ton of fashion ideas from across the globe that reaffirms the versatility of a sarong. With our focus on sarongs + inspiration, we want to travel and expand our horizon by researching the different ways a simple large piece of cloth called 'Sarong' can not only be functional but also fashionable. Be it at the beach or in the city, tropical summer or cold winter, whatever the conditions may be - we're convinced to have sarongs for ALL - all over the world, anytime and any day!

One of the infinite ways to use a sarong or scarf would be to cover a woman's hair or head, most commonly known as a head wrap, scarf or turban - usually for fashion styling or social consciousness (bad hair day?) or weather conditions (hot day VS. cold night) or hygiene purposes (dusty roads?) and in some cultures, for religious reasons also known as "hijab" or "tudung". If you're uncertain or simply a newbie to this way of tying a sarong, it's time to get inspired and learn! We're happy to share our most recent sarongspiration:

We got our eyes glued on our recent find - Modest Street Fashion , it is an amazing project of "a fashion-photography-documentary of the ever growing trend & culture of modest street style". Not only are we impressed by the variation of outfit and styles and mostly intrigued by the modern version of a "faith driven style". These women are beautifully dressed up with their own sense of style as a form of character expression.

Sarongs for Men - Forever Fashionable.

That's right. We don't leave the boys out when it comes to men sarong fashion! Our new arrivals include a collection of sarongs that are ideal for men who love to be free and who are confident enough to own a sarong! We've spoken about men sarong history before and so sarongs are really nothing new to a man's world of fashion.

Presenting our new arrivals of sarongs for men which are equipped with a variety of designs of print & colors. Be it solid color, animal prints, Celtic designs, traditional style or abstract, we've got it all to suit a range of personalities!

How would a man wear a sarong? Well, the best way to enjoy wearing a sarong is to wear it bare and that means going shirtless and commando!

In terms of men's style, you could style up with very minimal men's jewelry like a necklace or bracelet along with a pair of beach sandals or flip flops or just go barefoot! It's entirely up to your personality and fashion preference. We are noticing that sarong for men fashion never goes out of trend as you would see it on some runway fashion shows.

So what's the big deal, you'd wonder? We already know that sarongs were traditionally and culturally worn by men for centuries from different parts of the world and we are also used to the sight of hippie, traveler or bohemian dudes in sarongs.

Our believe is that sarongs are made for all men from all walks of life! Now what we'd really love to see more of would be a variation in style where sarongs for men are jazzed up to everyday casual wear or even street fashion be it at the beach or in the city. With simplicity at its best, a sarong on a man looks great when paired with a plain colored t-shirt or a casual white shirt. Pairing a sarong with a formal shirt could also be very fitting depending on the occasion and how you wear the sarong! For those who are a bit more daring than usual, you could play around with printed sarongs and plain colored shirts and match it up with some eclectic jewelry.

And where would men wear sarongs? We do think it's time to break the norm, steer away from stereotypes and perhaps try to wear sarongs on an everyday basis aside from the comfort of a vacation or by the beach.  Typically sarongs are worn by men when they are at home or at the beach or as a cover up on a nude beach or by the pool or on a cruise.

We hear that it's the most comfortable thing to wear especially during the summer, as to quote one of 1 World Sarongs customer who once said, "There's nothing more liberating in this world than to have the freedom of bare necessities", John Cooper. Well said, John!  :)

What are your thoughts on sarongs for men? We'd love to hear your ideas for fashion & style or simply leave us your feedback on the thought of a man in a sarong.
